The New York Liberty have acquired veteran guard Natasha Cloud from the Connecticut Sun in exchange for two first-round draft picks: the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and a 2026 WNBA Draft first-round pick. Cloud was previously traded to the Sun from the Phoenix Mercury a few weeks prior. She should be a solid replacement for Courtney Vandersloot, who departed the Liberty for the Chicago Sky in free agency.
Known for her playmaking and defense, Cloud averaged 6.9 assists per game last season, ranking third in the league.
Impact on the Connecticut Sun
For the Sun, this trade further signals a shift toward rebuilding. Having lost key players like Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner and Dijonai Carrington, the team should now be focusing on acquiring young talent. The Sun now have the No. 7 and No. 8 picks in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Impact on the New York Liberty
Cloud is an elite defender who brings toughness and leadership to the Liberty’s backcourt. Clearly in win-now mode, the Liberty are prioritizing championship aspirations over long-term draft capital.
