DRAFT DAY TRADES
No trades were made during the 2024 WNBA Draft, but one notable move happened the day before.
The Minnesota Lynx acquired the No. 8 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the right to exchange first-round picks in the 2026 WNBA Draft, a second-round pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and forward Sika Koné from the Chicago Sky. Chicago will receive Minnesota’s No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft and the rights to forward Nikolina Milić.

With three international selections, the Atlanta Dream focused on the future by drafting Nyadiew Puoch, Isobel Borlase, and Matilde Villa. Puoch, an athletic forward from Australia, brings elite defensive potential, while Borlase, a skilled guard also from Australia, adds three-level scoring. Villa, a crafty point guard from Italy, provides true floor general instincts, giving the Dream a trio of valuable long-term prospects.
With two top-ten picks, the Chicago Sky completely rebuilt their frontcourt by selecting Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese, and later added shooter Brynna Maxwell. Cardoso, a center from South Carolina, brings size and shot-altering ability, while Reese, a tenacious forward from LSU, provides rebounding and physicality, giving the Sky a foundational and franchise-altering rookie class.
With a flurry of picks starting late in the first round, the Connecticut Sun added a diverse set of skills by selecting Leïla Lacan, Taiyanna Jackson, Helena Pueyo, and Abbey Hsu. Lacan, a defensive guard from France, brings long-term playmaking potential, while Jackson provides immediate interior shot-blocking. Pueyo adds perimeter defense and three-point shooting, and Hsu brings in elite sharpshooting, giving the Sun a valuable mix of specialists to develop.
With a trio of selections, the Dallas Wings focused on rebuilding their backcourt by drafting Jacy Sheldon, Carla Leite, and Ashley Owusu. Sheldon, a tenacious two-way guard from Ohio State, brings elite defense and versatility. Leite, a point guard from France, adds aggressive playmaking. They rounded out their class with Ashley Owusu, a big point guard with scoring ability, giving the Wings a formidable and diverse trio of guards to build around for the future.
Holding the first overall pick, the Indiana Fever drafted Caitlin Clark and later added Celeste Taylor. Clark, the generational point guard from Iowa, brings three-point shooting and passing that immediately reshapes their offense, while Taylor, a tough guard from Ohio State, adds perimeter defense, giving the Fever new cornerstones to build around.
Despite not having a first-round pick, the Las Vegas Aces added a variety of talent in the later rounds, selecting Kate Martin, Liz Kitley, Dyaisha Fair, and Angel Jackson. Martin, a high-IQ guard from Iowa, brings hustle and reliable shooting, while Kitley offers long-term post-scoring potential. The Aces also added Dyaisha Fair, one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA history, and Angel Jackson for interior depth, giving them a valuable mix of players to develop.
With two of the top four picks, the Los Angeles Sparks landed two franchise cornerstones in Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson, and later added wing McKenzie Forbes. Brink, a forward from Stanford, provides elite shot-blocking and defensive prowess, while Jackson, a versatile forward from Tennessee, brings pure scoring instincts. Forbes, a sharpshooting wing from USC, adds outside shooting.
The Minnesota Lynx added offensive firepower by selecting Alissa Pili in the first round and later added Kiki Jefferson in the third. Pili, a skilled and powerful forward from Utah, brings scoring efficiency, while Jefferson, a big guard from Louisville, adds physicality, giving the Lynx a boost in both their frontcourt and backcourt.
Looking to add depth to their veteran roster, the New York Liberty had a busy draft, selecting Marquesha Davis, Esmery Martinez, Jessika Carter, and Kaitlyn Davis. Davis from Ole Miss provides athleticism and slashing on the wing, while Martinez brings toughness and rebounding. The Liberty bolstered their frontcourt further with Carter, a true center for interior defense, and Kaitlyn Davis, a versatile forward, giving them a deep and varied class of rookies to develop.
With two picks late in the draft, the Phoenix Mercury selected Charisma Osborne and Jaz Shelley. Osborne, a tough, two-way guard from UCLA, brings defense and scoring, while Shelley brings playmaking.
The Seattle Storm added two players in the draft, selecting guard Nika Mühl and forward Mackenzie Holmes. Mühl, a point guard from UConn, brings elite on-ball pressure and a pass-first mentality to the backcourt. Holmes, a skilled forward from Indiana, provides a polished low-post scoring presence and rebounding for the frontcourt, giving the Storm two solid players to develop for the future.
The Washington Mystics added a variety of talent, selecting forward Aaliyah Edwards, guard Kaylynne Truong, and international prospect Nastja Claessens. Edwards, a forward from UConn, brings physicality to the frontcourt. Truong, a crafty point guard from Gonzaga, provides passing and floor spacing, while Claessens offers long-term, versatile scoring potential from the wing, giving the Mystics a balanced and forward-looking draft class.
